  • What is passive solar construction?

Passive solar design means utilising the sun’s energy to power a home. This can be achieved with adequate shading, insulation, thermal mass, skylights, the correct positioning of windows, choice of roofing and much more. Chosen materials may emit, reflect or absorb the sun’s rays in order to either heat or cool your home. This design practice keeps the interior temperature even and helps to lower your monthly utility payments. Using less energy for heat and cooling also means making less of an impact on the environment.

  • How long will it take for my home to be built?

How long a house takes to construct depends on a variety of factors, including the size of your home, what materials are used in construction and the land on which you are building. Weather and other outside factors can also speed or slow the construction process. On average, a home can be completed in as little as 3 or 4 months. Others may take 6 months or longer.

  • Are there limitations to how much I can change the layout of my home during renovations?

There are certain elements which may be harder to move or remove during renovations, but in most cases, these issues can be worked around. For instance, you can’t tear down a load-bearing wall without adding something in its place to support the home. This can be done, but it will increase the cost of the renovation.

  • Do I need to have land already purchased before I get in touch with you?

Not necessarily. While it can speed up the process if you already have a land when you start the construction process, it can also be helpful if you have your home designed first, and then we can advise you on what type of lot you should look for in order to accommodate the home you desire. Either situation can be advantageous.

  • Should I already have financing before getting in touch with you?

You can get pre-qualified for a construction loan before you get in touch, but you can have the home design completed before you seek a loan so you have a better idea of how much money you will need for the house you want. If you are on a tighter budget, then getting financing in advance is the way to go so you know what type of house you can afford.
